A Brief History of 3 Count Radio

Long ago in the year 2010, Friends of 25 years (sick!) Mike and Derek were doing a comedy pop-culture podcast called Headshot Radio. However, during that show, professional wrestling talk snuck in more often than not … annoying the people who tuned in for Kardashian banter.

So they began 3 Count Radio with Mike’s lovely wife Ryanne and their friend Brad, a life-long fan of the Wrestling. The four hosts instantly built up a chemistry that is unmatched in the wrestling podcasting world as they do what they enjoy the most … talking about and riffing on the week in wrestling.

Since episode 1, the guys have amassed a large collection of bits, inside jokes, and crazy terms that they use every week in a vain attempt to scare off new listeners. But since the show is too darn good … it hasn’t worked yet.  Our listening community currently consists of over 10,000 subscribers, and 140+ members on the facebook boards.

Now 120+ episodes in, 3 Count Radio is revamping the show to keep things fresh for both hosts and listeners alike. Even though Derek is no longer able to deal with the awesome and has had to take a hiatus from podcasting, the show is still going strong!

You've now reached the present ... so all that's left is to listen and laugh your face off!

3 Count Radio Lexicon

3.0 – The name of Randy Orton’s over-the-back backbreaker. Not our term, named by “Above Average” Mike Sanders who used this move as his finisher, it’s here because Derek has heard this move’s name for the first time at least 3 times now.

Albert-Hos – Formerly Nikki and Bree Bella, named so for their recent flirting with Alberto Del Rio due to the WWE’s racist tendency to pair ethnic stereotypes together. More recently Rosa Mendez.

The Alleged One Man Rape Band – Heath Slater. Take off of the fact that he allegedly sexually assaulted a female security guard during Wrestlemania 27 weekend right before getting punched in the face by the Big Show as hard as he can during his actual match.

Ass Wellington *NEW* - A British Swamp Donkey; This phrase was coined when Layla turned heel on Kaitlyn.

Baby Chris Masters – Anthony Neese from TNA’s X-Division, has since been released and is probably bagging groceries at a Publix somewhere.

Baby Randy Orton Circa 2004 – TNA's Jesse Sorenston, who has since been released and is probably the nice fellow in the wheelchair greeting customers at a Wal Mart somewhere.

Baby Primo – Epico

Backfaces – The terrible tattoos on either Matt Morgan or Gunner’s backs that look they were drawn by 5-year-olds.

Bagel Time – The match on the card the do not give a crap about. This is the perfect time to make yourself a healthy snack.

Before and After - The Bella Twins. Comes from the fact they are a human before and after boob job photo.

Blackpool Slam – Wade Barrett’s version of the Blackhole or Bossman Slam.

Capetown Splashdown – Justin Gabriel’s 450 splash.

Cenalepsy - The unfortunate medical condition where people can't help but fall asleep while John Cena is on their television.

Chocolate Wonderfall – The much better name for Mark Henry’s World’s Strongest Slam. Comes from the new desert attraction of Golden Corral, which is probably Mark Henry’s favorite restaurant.

Code Of Arms – Del Rio’s Code-breaker to the Arm.

Crotch-Lock Driver - The literal interpretation and new name of Antonio Cesaro's Neutralizer Finisher. Technically called a "Gotch-Lock" Driver.

The Cornerline – Miz’s signature follow-through corner clothesline.

CORRE-e-door – Wade Barrett’s big boot while opponent is in the ropes. Comes from the fact he was the not leader of the Corre, and used to do this move using Slater and Gabriel instead of the ropes.

Cyber Walrus – Mason Ryan (See also Steroid Gerard Butler)

Dads R’ Us – The store that Kevin Nash exclusively shops at.

Diesel LaFemme *NEW* - Tamina Snuka in her current Female Diesel Bodyguard gimmick for AJ. Also, any move she hits to win a match or after a match is a Jackknife powerbomb.

Does It Every Week – A through the ropes suicide dive, comes from the fact Daniel Bryan nearly kills himself doing the move every week.

Dr. Stroke – The 4th Chair on the 3CR who shows up when a bad, medical, or sexual joke is made. He always plays the beginning riff of Michael Jackson’s Beat it on a Mariachi Guitar to denote said joke was made.

Drew McIntyre Move Count - A game that you play during Drew McIntyre matches where you count every wrestling move he does. Punches, kicks, clotheslines, stomps, ect don't count, and set-ups for moves that get reversed or thought better of garner negative points. His record is 6 moves in one match, his low point was -1, and his average is 0. To compare,  in an average Edge match, Edge gets at least 8 moves in. Drew McIntyre is a punchy-kicky guy.

Dwellings For Felons – Trivia game where the point is to guess the Heel Wrestler’s hometown.

Get Got (the) – R-Truth’s jumping DDT finisher.

Getting Over (the) – Zack Ryder’s over-the-top-rope flip onto opponents on the outside.

Gingerberg - Another name for Crimson because he is both a ginger and Goldberg's gimmick. See also King Baby. He has since been released and is probably working at a 7-11 somewhere.

Gum News – Tangent segment of the show where Derek discusses his personal journey to find the perfect sugarless fruit gum.

Hardy Jericho Special – Hunico’s swanton / lionsault finisher

Herny – The constant typo misspelling by Mike of Mark Henry’s name.

Hurty Choppy / Oopsie Droppy -  The Great Khali's chop to the head and double-handed choke-Drop. These are his names for these moves because he only understands the english a 3-year-old would.

I’m Flying – CM Punk’s top-rope springboard clothesline where he will often shout “I’m Flying” as he’s doing it.

Irish Spring – Sheamus’ vaulting shoulder block, possibly makes opponent smell like’s he’s worth exploring.

Jennifer Hudson – David Otunga’s finisher. Formally his actual name in NXT, The Nexus, and during his tag team run with Michael McGillicutty. He has since earned his real name back. Comes from the fact the most interesting thing about him used to be that he knocked up Jennifer Hudson. He now drinks coffee, poses, and is wonderful.

Jinder Bender – The name of Jinder Mahal’s Camel Clutch.

King Baby - Crimson in TNA, named this because he looks like a normal wrestler with the head of an infant. See also Gingerberg. He has since been released, and is probably working in the hardware section at a Lowes somewhere.

Little Jimmy In Paradise - The Tag Team of R-Truth and Kofi Kingston

Maclicutty – Michael McGillicutty. John Cena coined this phrase and we actually liked it enough to use it.

Merry-Go-Ryan – Mason Ryan’s finisher ... the torture rack into a back to back neckbreaker ... Also known as the Mason-Go-Round.

Mickey Mouse – Evan Bourne. Comes from the fact that when he talks, all you can do is smile and think about Disneyworld.

Moonworm *NEW* - Brad's nickname on the show. Brad once said "Behold the Mighty Moonworm" during his introductions.

Mouthful of Ryder – Zack Ryder’s leg lariat finisher, named that because the true power of the move comes from the placement of his crotch more so than the actual fall.

Mr. Ziggles – Dolph Ziggler, Ziggleypuff, Ziggletastic

Muscle Grandpa – The Rock during match-promotion pictures.

Muscle Hugh Laurie - TNA'a Magnus

Places for Faces – Trivia game where the point is to guess the hometown of the FACE wrestler.

Poochie  - Triple H. Comes from the fact that the WWE wants Triple H to be on television all the time. In the rare times he can't be ... the audience should be asking "Hey, Where's Triple H?"

Poochie and the Snake - Triple H and Randy Orton. Sung to the tune of Benny and the Jets.

Poochie Levesque - Corporate Triple H, the heel turn has not improved his television time, in fact it's way worse now. He's now on close to 46% of WWE programming. As you know, during the other 54%, you should be asking ... "Where's Triple H?"

Primicos – The Tag Team of Primo and Epico.

Radny – The habitual mistyping of Randy Orton by Mike.

Randy Orton's Sleeve Tattoos - TNA's Kid Kash, because somehow Orton's sleeve tattoos jump off his arms to wrestle Thursdays on SPIKE TV once every few months.

Rhodes Scholars - The tag team name of Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow, coined by Tommy Gun at least 1 month before it was said on the 9-25-12 Episode of RAW.

Ride of The Valkyries – Daniel Bryan’s Giant roundhouse kick.

Septum Buster – Some Drug Dealer’s (Hunico’s) swanton finisher.

Side of fries – Heath Slater’s finisher, comes from the fact he looks like the chick from Wendy’s.

Slapsgiving – Sheamus’ move where he ties his opponent in the ropes and pounds on their chest far too many times in the span of a referee 4-Count.

Some Drug Dealer - Hunico

Spudz-McJericho - Jerry Lynn, because he looks like the love-child of Chris Jericho and former canine Budweiser Mascot; Spudz McKinnsey.

Steroid Gerard Butler – Mason Ryan (See also Cyber Walrus).

Star-Spangled Splash – Jack Swagger’s Vader Bomb.

Sun Cat – Sin Cara … because his mask looks simultaneously like a sun and a cat.

Super Dave – John Laurnitis aka Executive Vice President of Talent Relations and Intern-am Raw General Manager because he looks and sounds like Super Dave Osbourne.

Swaggles – The name of Jack Swagger’s first born child (formally the tag team of Ziggler and Swagger … (see now Zig Swag).

Swamp Donkey – For When the term skank and slut aren’t enough to describe a WWE Diva or TNA Knockout.

Team Friendship - The Tag tag of Kane and Daniel Bryan, quite possibly the greatest tag team ever formed. Screw the name "Hell-No"

The What What in the Butt Guy – Zema Ion

ThighGap *NEW* - Ryanne's nickname on the show. Comes from Ryanne's conversation about thigh-gaps in society and how she has one herself.

Thundermaker *NEW* - Mike's nickname on the show. Comes from the fact that Mike used to jokenly refer to his testicles as the Thundermakers back in his younger days.

Write us in – Mike’s way of saying he wants people to E-Mail the show.

X-Y-Z-Factor - Dolph Ziggler's top rope X-Factor. Named this because he uses the X and Y Axises to do the move, and his name is Ziggler.

Zig Swag – The tag Team of Jack Swagger and Dolph Ziggler.

#KANAL - The unfortunate conclusion to #KANEALL. It comes from the twitter poll the WWE released asking who AJ should date, #AJPUNK, #AJBRYAN, #AJKANE, or #AJALL.

"The Voice of the Voiceless Women Wrestling Fans" Ryanne

Ryanne, the goddess of wrestling podcasting, had a humble start to watching wrestling ... she was limited to only watching WCW back during the Monday Night Wars. She and her brother would watch and cheer for the n.W.o. red and black Wolfpac ... as well as Chris Jericho and Sting. She stayed away from the WWF due their their reprehensible language, subject matters, and degradation of women.

Because of this ... she went down with the sinking ship that was WCW, and that's when she stopped watching wrestling. However, she always held a torch to the way things used to be.

She got back into wrestling, kind of out of love. Her husband, Mike, was getting back into wrestling and she wanted to be able to share it with him, rather then doing what most wives would do ... ridicule and mock them incessantly until they have no self esteem and are a crying, hot mess on the living room floor. (Right Mrs. Derek?)

Ryanne, unlike most female wrestling fans, hates Randy Orton ... which is nice, because I can't compete with that. She loves Christian, Chris Jericho, and Drew McIntyre ... but hell, who doesn't?

Ryanne, the heart and soul of 3CR, continues to be most of the reason the male fans (and female ones) constantly return to the show. Everyone loves Ryanne.

Ryanne's Stats

Favorite Wrestler (All time): Chris Jericho
Favorite Wrestler (Current): Christian
Favorite Tag Team: The Outsiders
Favorite Match: Chris Jericho vs Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith in a Steel Cage
Favorite PPV: Money in the Bank 2011
Favorite Finisher: The Liontamer
Favorite Championship Belt: The United States Championship
Favorite Wrestling Moment: When Jaws Pops out of the water.

"The Improbable One" Brad

Ever since Brad was a young man, he has been groomed to be a wrestling nerd. Forced to watch hours upon hours of classic Hackenshmidt vs Frank Gotch matches, he to this day can recite every move for their classic 1911 MSG match. The only time he was allowed to not watch wrestling was while sleeping, however he was required to listen to Bobby The Brain Heenen read the audiobook version of the WWF Encyclopedia.

When he was 12, Brad escaped from his "dungeon" and hit the road, wrestling in the independents as "The Mirror Man," he wore a Lucha mask and his gimmick was to counter every single one of his opponents moves. As you would think, this gimmick was not very popular with the guys, and he later had to retire from wrestling after receiving 324 spinebusters in a row from a young Ryback.

Back home, Brad instead devoted his life to only watching and trying to come up with a way to make his mark on wrestling in a different way. Finally just out of high school, Brad attended a RAW in Minnesota, where he sat in the front row. And during this show, Brad began repeating something a popular wrestler at the time, Stone Cold Steve Austin was saying.

Yes ... Brad was the first person to do the "WHAT!?!" chant.

Because of this Brad has had to live most of the rest of his life in hiding, only coming out Tuesday nights to talk about wrestling with the only others who know his true location, his fellow hosts of 3 Count Radio.

Brad's Stats

Favorite Wrestler (All Time): Glacier
Favorite Wrestler (Current): Little Jimmy
Favorite Tag Team: Los Conquistadores
Favorite Match: Rocky vs Thunderlips
Favorite PPV: World War 3 1999
Favorite Finisher: The Small Package
Favorite Feud: Brock Lesnar vs Bill Goldberg
Favorite Wrestling Moment: The Rock's Birthday on RAW in 2011.

"The Lord of the Ring" Derek

Derek began watching wrestling on Monday nights when his mom and dad were none the wiser. Coming from a strict extremest Muslim household, things like Hulk Hogan, Freedom, women with jobs, and pyrotechnics were frowned upon. Ok, that's not true, pyro was fine as long as it was being used to blow up the infidels.

Derek and his tight-knit group of friends would always watch the Monday night shows, and it would be thee topic of conversation at school the next day. You never wanted to be the kid that forgot to watch as it would come with a severe beating and being tied to the merry-go-round, upside down, and without pants.

Derek (being a giant) ... naturally gravitated to Big Daddy Cool Diesel, not realizing he was both a terrible wrestler and a terrible person. Derek's first live WWF event was the "In Your House" where Diesel and HBK won the tag team titles from The British Bulldog and Yokozuna by pinning Owen Hart (who had just arrived to the arena following traffic issues.) *Note* Derek did not take his best friend Mike to this event and Mike will one day have his revenge for this ultimate act of betrayal.

Derek had an off and on again relationship with wrestling throughout high school, watching it when his friends did and when he wasn't busy with his other hobby of raising and taming wild box turtles. However, after a tragic accident involving a toy wrestling ring and two of his favorite turtles, he vowed to never watch wrestling again.

That is until he found his long lost friend Mike in 2009, and they say down to watch an episode of Smackdown when the future endeavored wrestler John Morrison dressed up like Mel Gibson in that totally accurate Scottish movie. After seeing this comedy gold, Derek was hooked again and decreed that all other things, such as food, family, and work must be put on hold to do the podcast known as 3 Count Radio and GAIDEN! (Seriously ... how ironic is that last sentence?)

Derek's Stats

Favorite Wrestler (All Time): Diesel
Favorite Wrestler (Current): Heath Slater
Favorite Tag Team: Men on a Mission
Favorite Match: Alicia Fox vs Melina
Favorite PPV: Survivor Series 1998 (Deadly Game)
Favorite Finisher: The Goon's Body-check (A Shoulder Block on the outside, wins via count out)
Favorite Feud: The WWE Divas vs TV Time
Favorite Wrestling Moment: When it Winked at Jerry Lawler.
Favorite WWE Championship Title: The Purple Old New IC Title that I think Jeff Hardy Had.

"Mr. 3 Count Radio" Mike

Mike started watching wrestling on Saturday Mornings after the good shows were done, like X-Men and Spiderman, and it was really just something to do other than playing outside.

The first wrestling show that Mike really paid attention to was Summerslam 95’ with the second Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon ladder match. From that show on, Mike was a wrestling fan. He watched every Monday night, and probably cried more than he should have when HBK won the title back at Wrestlemania XII.

He watched both WWF and WCW off and on, mostly cheering the heels with some exceptions. By the time the Montreal Screwjob happened, he rarely watched. That event, plus DX forming, sucked him back in as it would most impressionable 15-year-olds. He would watch the first hour of Nitro and then flip it over to RAW for the rest of the time. Mike stayed loyal to the WWF, with the n.W.o and Chris Jericho being the only two things that made him keep the tv on TNT. This was also the time he attended the most live events, including the Zamboni Stone Cold Raw, and the Radicals coming to the Smackdown for the first night.
Also in high school, Mike delved into the deep annals of wrestling nerdom, by joining both an online wrestling roleplaying federation and doing backyard wrestling with his friends. Known as the Sniper in both incarnations, Mike won several online titles because he was pretty good at it, and only had about 10 backyard matches because it was more trouble than it was worth.

By the time 2000 rolled around, it was back to off-and-on watching, and by 2001 he had stopped watching all together.

Mike tried to start watching again in 2007 after listening to an unnamed wrestling podcast, but then the Chris Benoit tragedy happened and it left a sour taste in his mouth, so he stopped again.

Finally in 2008 when he moved to Florida and started working with Brad, he started watching again, fueled by the Comedy of Santino (I know right?) and the feud between Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels, his two favorite wrestlers of all time.

He had been podcasting as a hobby with Derek since 2006, so it was only natural that they would start up a show to take on the Millions (and millions) of other shows for Wrestling podcasting supremacy.

Mike’s Stats

-Favorite Wrestler All Time: Chris Jericho
-Favorite Wrestler Current: Daniel Bryan
-Favorite Tag Team: Edge and Christian
-Favorite Match: Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 25
-Favorite PPV: Wrestlemania X or Wrestlemania 28
-Favorite Finisher: Liontamer (Not Walls of Jericho)
-Favorite Feud: Mick Foley vs The Rock
-Favorite Wrestling Moment: When Shawn Michaels won the WWE title at WM 12
-Favorite WWE Championship: The White Intercontinental Belt
-Notable Events Attended: The RAW where Stone Cold drove the Zamboni into the ring, The Smackdown where the Radicalz debuted in the ring and Eddie Guererro broke his elbow, Wrestlemania 27, Wrestlemania 28, The "Yes!" Monday Night Raw the night after Wrestlemania 28
